Late Thursday night the SubFinder system notified local math tutor Joe McDonald that his services would not be required on Friday, thereby postponing his debut as a substitute teacher.
The regular teacher, whose schedule was changed so that a sub was not necessary, apologized for any inconvenience.
Pundits flooded the Twittersphere with tweets of conspiracy, so much so that McDonald's PR team hastily assembled a statement to ease the tension.
"Joe is looking forward to his first opportunity to help the school system which has partnered so well with him during his tutoring career. This incident arose through harmless and unavoidable circumstance. Any rumor suggesting any ulterior motive is baseless, egregious, outrageous, preposterous. He is pleased to have the opportunity to sleep in, and to have a leisurely lunch."
