Illinois Couple Lets Facebook Poll Choose Baby's Name

[Hidden Blog note: I think this is fantastic. Parents who are open-minded about their baby's name, seem likely to be pretty non-controlling, more open to their child finding the life path that works best for her.]

CRYSTAL LAKE, Ill. (CBS) — The votes are in, and a newborn in Crystal Lake has her name.
As WBBM Newsradio’s Regine Schlesinger reports, last fall, Dave and Lindsey Meske couldn’t agree on a name for the daughter they were expecting. He wanted Madelyn, but she preferred McKenna.
So they turned to the Facebook community to settle the deadlock.
“With Facebook being such a huge part of our culture now, this is something that it’s kind of going to,” Dave Meske said.
On a poll page, Facebook users could vote for one of four names – the two the Meskes wanted, or two others – Emily and Addilyne.
More than 4,200 people voted, some from as far away as Germany, New Zealand and Iceland.
Madelyn turned out to be the winning name with 1,310 votes, edging Emily by just about 50 votes.
The baby was born early Tuesday. True to their word, the Meskes abided by the decision of the Facebook judges, and Madelyn Rae Meske is now the baby’s name.
