Mysteriously absent employee John Diedrich was snared by a promise of dinner at C.J.'s restaurant in Bloomington on Friday evening.
Diedrich, last seen in the office about a month ago, had spent time elusively in Las Vegas and Dallas according to confidential sources.
His time on the run came to a close thanks to his wife Rosann of 16 years; a handsome collection of in-laws and mini-in-laws; neighbor-folk; and a celebrity couple the Diedrichs introduced on a blind date last century.
"I knew something was up," he said to a generally dubious crowd of well-wishers who sang a full-throated chorus of "Happy Birthday" and dangled necklaces with "4" and "0" on it as he entered the room.
Despite decades as a Cubs fan, Diedrich's medical staff has pronounced him in remarkably good health, and is predicted to enjoy a similar celebration in about ten years.
