"My tendency is to want to try to solve problems... I have had to accept that some problems can't be solved. I just try to do my best to make bad situations a little better, to listen, and to be there for the long haul." - Deborah Lustig
Lustig is a court-appointed special advocate - an everyday citizen whom judges appoint to stand up for children that have been abused and neglected. In some cases, these children have never had a positive adult role model. Yet it takes more than just being there to make a difference. Fairy-tale endings aren't guaranteed, or even probable.
Lots of times our destiny isn't to solve people's problems, or to solve the problems they cause. It's to make the most of the situation, with a glint in our eye.
