Shrek Diary: Secret Cast Bios

Chris Terven (Shrek) is a Renaissance man, except that he's squeezed so much into his life that it wouldn't fit in the Renaissance era. The man runs on 3 hours of sleep, donating much of his time to Country Companies but with plenty left over for baking, exercising to the point of losing nearly 100 pounds, designing the Shrek set, running RehearScore, building and painting the set, inventing the exploding bluebird prop among others. He's practiced martial arts, managed Community Players' finances. He'll buy a round of dinner or snacks for the entire cast. While masterfully memorizing the Shrek dialogue, blocking and songs (probably over lunch one day), he bought and moved into a new house.

Lisa Groves (Fiona) is not only perfecting the craft of the quick-change, but merely extending her do-it-all ability as a director of Clinton High School's theater program and leadership of their dance team. Besides raising two girl prodigies with her husband Matt, she also babysits over the summer and drives round-trip to Bloomington. Somehow in the middle of all this, and battling bronchitis without a hitch on stage, she learned to tap dance with the rat dancers (and to teach the Pied Piper to play the flute). She's the life of any party, loves a night out with the cast, and is knocking her first CPT lead out of the park.

Now that the green makeup's been conquered, veils, ears and fat suit in place, CPT audiences have been treated to the amazing on-stage chemistry, grace and comic expressiveness of these two well-deserving actors!

None of this is news to me! I recall similar instances when we did Hairspray. These two were destined to play the leads! I only wish that I could have been a part of this talented cast. Shrek rocked! Congratulations Alan & crew. You have another winner for CPT.
