What the Text?

Why do they call them text messages? Why not just call them messages? Are we really that likely to think you're talking about Morse Code? "Text me." "Are you texting me?" What does that even mean? What's next? "Excuse me, waiter, would you please food me as soon as possible? How about you banker, cash me will you?"
