Nashville's Centennial Park - A Greeky Experience

Nestled across the street from Vanderbilt University is a wide open space called Centennial Park that bustles with activity on a cloudless 70 degree Sunday afternoon.

Notable is the replica of the famous Greek Parthenon, reconstructed almost exactly here, the only one of its kind.

It postures magnificently from a distance in the autumn sun, beckoning us closer to inspect its remarkable realism.

For example, the brilliant blue plastic construction of the nearby toilets, typical of the architectural era, as well as the Greco-style compact cars of the early millennium.

Even hundreds of years later, youth still play Ultimate Frisbee beneath the Parthenon's gaze.

At last we reach the entrance, the columns and friezes towering above marvelously just as in ancient times. Back then, the doors probably didn't close at 4:30 on Sundays though. Darn.
