A Portal For A Storm

Our old storm door had reached the point where it no longer closed due to an excessively weak latch. Even for non-handy types, this is pretty much past the point of no return. We put in a call to Affordable Builders (contact Steve Lienhop, the guy is fair and reliable). He even measured the door frame and steered us to Menard's to pick a style. Picked out the Alexander brown model, 32x81 inches, paid at the counter and let them know it'd be picked up. No need to borrow Dad's truck for this!

While we were at it, there was the matter of the, um, dilapidated old railing that had sheared away from the side of the house. The badly weatherstripped maroon blotch job had all the aesthetic of a lazy-eyed painter. And it was better than anything I'd have done. But now the Stevenator hatched a plan for a sturdy new termite-treated wood railing that will be ripe for a coat next spring after some curing. No more trashy-induced double-takes by visitors!

Gotta love the new bigger screen. Every inch counts in a low-flow jet stream condo. Cooler times ahead!
