NCHS Rides Defense To 22-1 Start With Win Over Collinsville

O'FALLON — Alex Peacock had 12 points and 11 rebounds Saturday as the Normal Community basketball team improved its record to 22-1 with a 46-36 victory over Collinsville in the O'Fallon Shootout.
"It's a real good nonconference win and a really good atmosphere for our team to play in," said NCHS coach Dave Witzig, whose Class 4A No. 6 Ironmen also got 12 points from Zach Thompson and 11 from Tyler Seibring.
Emondre Rickman, a 6-foot-9 Indiana State recruit, and Anfirnee Wilkinson topped Collinsville with 10 points apiece.
NCHS led 16-13 at halftime and widened the margin to 26-20 after three quarters and pulled away in the fourth.
"It was a tough defensive battle. They played a 2-3 zone on us and kind of packed it in. (Rickman) caused some problems in the middle for us," said Witzig. "Alex made some big plays in the second half with some offensive rebounds and we were able to make enough free throws down the stretch."
